This past Friday night Lauren's soccer team was playing their big rival, Brenham. I was so upset that I had to work until 8 that night, and by the time I got back to Huntsville, the game would be over. My mom wasn't able to make it to the game either, since she was working an event at Sam Houston. Thankfully my dad was able to make it, so Lauren had at least 1 fan in the crowd! It was miserably cold that night, and it actually was sleeting the whole second half of the game. In the end, Huntsville lost 1-0, but it was still a very exciting game! At one point, Lauren and a player from Brenham both went up for a header at the same time. Somehow, the two collided, and the girl hit her mouth on Lauren's head. She fell to ground screaming, with blood pouring out of her mouth. While the ref and the trainer ran to check on her, Lauren ran to the sideline once she realized her head was bleeding as well. They wrapped her head in gauze and rubbed some dirt on her jersey to hide the blood, and she went back in to play the last 5-10 minutes of the game. Once it was over, the trainer finally had a chance to look at Lauren's head. He had already learned that the girl had knocked a tooth out of her mouth when she hit Lauren, but he then found a piece of the tooth stuck in Lauren's head!! She had gone out and played with a tooth in her head!!! He pulled it out with tweezers, but sent her to the emergency room to have it cleaned and stitched.
I was so mad I had missed all the excitement, but I got into town just in time to take Lauren to the hospital with my dad. We continued to try to call my mom to let her know what was going on, but she never answered! Finally an hour and a half later she calls frantic after reading texts, and listening to voice mails! The doctor decided not to give her stitches since it was considered a human bite! Apparently those are worse than animal bites since a human mouth is dirtier than an animals (gross...) Instead they put these little band aid type things on that will stay for roughly 4 days. She can't get them wet, so the past few days I have had the privilege of washing her hair in the sink!
The whole story was all over the newspaper! There was a big article in the Saturday paper with Lauren's picture. Here is the link to Saturday's story...

There was also a write up on Sunday that was all about the collision and how Lauren went back into the game with a busted up head! She has been the talk of the town this past weekend!
Here are some pictures from that night...
