Hey there... remember me? I promise I am still alive (and so is Kael), I just can't seem to find (or should I say make) the time to sit and write. To be quite honest, I can barely put together a logic thought in my head most of the time. The days feel as though they are blurring together, and all I want is to spend every precious moment with my family.
You see, there were a few hiccups in my original plans. And I know, I know... where is Kael's one year old post (kinda important wouldn't you say?). I will have to back track and update on all of the wonderful birthday festivities we had for Kael. They included a party here in Alaska with our framily (did you catch that one? Friends+Family= Framily, and in the military sometimes you spend more time with them than your blood relatives). It was wonderful and included all of Kael's friends from school and his guest of honor was his girlfriend, who he made sure to love on the entire time. A few weeks later, we celebrated in Texas with a birthday beach bash that was just plain over the top, but a great time with both sides of our families. But like I said, I will back track and post those later on.
You see folks, it is actually 1:27am here in Kodiak, AK and I can't sleep. Probably because my child is getting his molars and continues to wake every 2 hours. Or it could be this new job I have. Oh yea... you thought I was going to be quitting my job to nanny and stay at home with Kael. Well, that is where the hiccup begins. I was offered a promotion I had applied for before placing my resignation. It is one of those promotions you can't really pass up. It will give me crucial experience that I will need for my future endeavors (hopefully obtaining my teaching certificate), but also gets me into a position with the federal government, which means great benefits and with every move we have to make, I am able to keep my status and pay grade and am placed on a preference list for any positions I apply for. Something like that is HUGE when you have to move every 3-4 years.
So what is this new promotion I decided to take? I will now be the Education Technician (AKA-Lead Teacher) in the Toddler Room. I get to endure, I mean enjoy, TWENTY two years olds! If this doesn't prepare me to teach at the elementary level, I don't know what will. The biggest adjustment has been going back to work full time. Up until now, I have only worked part time since Kael was born. Now that I am working a full day, it seems to make things very chaotic once we get home. It's sad how little time I get with Kael before it is time to put him to bed, so my computer/phone/Facebook time has really been limited. By the time Kael is down, I am able to finally sit for the first time in roughly 13 hours and all I want to do is absolutely nothing! At times I find myself wondering if this was the best decision, but we only have a year left before we transfer, and this gets my foot in the door. Not to mention Kael LOVES his school and interacting with the other kids. I don't think he really misses me! :( Not to mention he will be joining me in the toddler room June 25th! I can't believe it... how is he getting so big?!?
Over the next few weeks I will be getting my room put together (it really needs some TLC!) and preparing for our NAEYC accreditation. Hence the sleepless nights. I find myself laying in bed for hours envisioning how I want to move furniture around, or what I will put on the walls. But more than that, how the room will do during the accreditation visit. There are some key points they will be looking for that my room really lacks at the moment. Most are structural issues that I can't change, but need to find a solution for anyhow.
On top of that, it is transfer season. Saying goodbye to these kids is tough! Some of them I have watched grow since they were 6 weeks old! It is a reminder of how quickly we makes friends, and then hope that we can keep in touch when it's time to move on.
Looks like I better try to get a little sleep before I am really regretting it in the morning!
